The challenge: Identify who and what connects

Baker & Baker operates bakery production and office locations across Europe. Its small IT and network team wanted to extend its Zero Trust journey to network access while keeping day-to-day operations manageable. The challenge was to gain clearer visibility into who and what connects and meet the different needs of employees, visitors, personal devices and connected equipment.

Identifying a user or device during an investigation could be time-consuming. The team needed clearer accountability and a more practical way to manage access across its locations, without adding disproportionate operational effort. Different user and device needs also made it important to choose an approach that could evolve as the project progressed.

Baker & Baker set out to improve accountability on guest Wi‑Fi, simplify network access control, and extend its existing Zero Trust investment to users and devices at the point where they join the network. The solution also had to be practical for a lean team managing multiple sites.

The solution: One cloud platform for multiple access needs

The project began by exploring how to improve guest access. As Baker & Baker evaluated Cloudi-Fi, the scope expanded to employee access and broader network access needs. The team adopted a phased approach: employee Wi-Fi access is now operational.

Cloudi‑Fi gives Baker & Baker a single cloud platform to manage employee access across its sites, without adding operational overhead. The project also gives the team a foundation for evaluating broader access needs as the rollout continues.

The aim is a straightforward onboarding experience and clearer accountability for the IT team.

The objective is to give the team a more consistent way to manage different device needs from the same platform.

Results and next steps

Cloudi-Fi is operational for Baker & Baker’s employee Wi-Fi access. The cloud platform gives its small IT team a way to centralize access management and support day-to-day operations. The team can build on this initial deployment as the project moves into its next phases.

“Cloudi-Fi already supports our employee Wi-Fi access. For us, the value is a cloud platform that helps a small team manage access today and provides a foundation for extending that approach to broader access needs as the project progresses.” — Steffen Erler, Director of IT Security and Network Services, Baker & Baker

Steffen Erler also shared Baker & Baker’s experience during Cloudi-Fi’s breakout session at Zscaler Zenith Live ‘26 in Vienna. Read why enterprises see network access as Zero Trust’s biggest blind spot, and iTWire’s coverage of the Vienna session.

The wider ambition is to make network access more consistent and accountable across Baker & Baker’s operations. Future phases will focus on broader access needs and a straightforward experience for users, while keeping management practical for the IT team.

The rollout will continue in phases, guided by Baker & Baker’s operational priorities.
